Inhabited by my life, my soul, and my heart, this is the place, here it is.

kashmir great lakes trek

If someone would have termed the trek as ‘The Gateway to the Garden of Eden’, even then it would have not done justice to what it holds. To ask you to close your eyes and imagine your own paradise on the earth is to insult the wonders this Walhalla inhabits. To believe in a place that runs across the stretch with seven distinct valleys, seven different alpine lakes, and six poles-apart colossal grasslands are to believe heaven does exist.

Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is a feeling to seep in, a sensation to decrypt, and a rainy eve song to listen to. It’s s a symphony of every trek which exists in India. Trudging through six different boundless grasslands, marked with flowers of every possible color is like witnessing a self-created competition amongst the all. With every passing valley, you will be stunned to eyewitness the secret challenge of beauty each one poses to the other. It’s more like transporting yourself to one of the 17th-century British tales expressed with limitless flourishing meadows of maple and leafy grasslands patched with nut-brown wild horses.

Could you imagine yourself strolling on a warm sunny morning in the middle of lush green meadows, blooming with yellow-pink flowers, opening over broad-wide bare mountains with heavenly looking brown and white horses grazing over? How many times have you peeped over a lake and not seen your dizzy reflection over it? Rather it’s mostly you going pompous over a brownish figure taking a shape!

kashmir great lakes trek

Well, amidst all the ethereal experience of trekking through such a poetic landscape, you will often get a chance to peep over some of the greatest lakes of Kashmir. Twin brooks Gangabal and Nandkol who sits quietly in the middle of gigantic blackish Hasmukh peak reflect their own glaciers over the water. The specialty of these startling lakes is that because they are not a natural habitat for any kind of life forms make them as blue as fresh blueberries and as transparent as a freaking glass.

kashmir great lakes trek

Gadsar lake, one of the great lakes of Kashmir and the most awe-inspiring lakes in the entire country is a dream to imprison. A dream you want to put on the repeat forever but which tends to slip in from your soul like grains of sand. Most of these lakes have their lineage attached to the exceptional mountains who stand just in the backdrop, occasionally dropping in some ice like a floating iceberg of the Titanic. The vastness of this landscape takes your breath away and leaves you dazed.

The unpredictable weather plays a major jack in this trek. The valleys being harshly prone to massive snow and jarring cold, you are left with very few months to trudge on this extraordinary expedition. The only months when you can plan a day out is between July to September. Therefore you must stay mindful of every reservation.

The Kashmir Great Lakes trek which is also often abbreviated to ‘KGL’ is the most embellishing trek in this entire marvelous country. If you wish to trek through meadows as vast as space, lakes as sparkling as the sun, and the landscape as astonishing as nothing in the world, hop in with us!
